As 2017 sets in, spring, and more importantly baseball season, is right around the corner. PBR’s preseason All-State games are scheduled all over the country in the near future, and players are preparing themselves for the upcoming season. This week, On the Hunt, zeroes in on some uncommitted players who are ready to make their mark on 2017, and will be valued greatly by college recruiters. Included in the list are a few arms ready to make a breakthrough, as well as a few polished position players great defensive skills and bats.
Brian Hendry, RHP, Shawnee HS, NJ, 2018
Hendry’s long, 6-foot-3, 185-pound frame immediately stands out when he gets on the mound, and his 87-88 fastball jumps out of his hand. Henry uses an quickish motion, and a long arm swing to deliver his firm fastball out of a high slot. The young-looking Hendry gets good use of his long levers, and delivers the ball out front very close to the plate. His curveball takes 11/5 shape with sharp break at times, and is a developing pitch that should progress rapidly based on the spin it already has. With such long limbs, it can be difficult for a pitcher to repeat his arm slot and command the strike zone, but Hendry does a good job of both. As he continues to fill out and grow into his frame, Hendry’s high ceiling should be reached, and he will be an excellent piece of some schools 2018 recruiting class.
